Haryana has acquired a prominent place on the tourist map
of the country for its outstanding contribution in promotion of tourism. This
has been well brought out in the Tourism Policy 2008 approved by the State
Govt. This policy acknowledges role of private sector in tourism promotion
with Govt. acting as facilitator and catalyst for growth. One of the major
highlight of the policy is to provide the lease policy regarding major tourism
projects in short term basis (upto 11 years) and on long term basis (upto
33 years) for tourism projects on public private partnership. The Government
has set up a network of 44 Tourist Complexes all over the State which are
extremely popular with the tourists. The total availability of accommodation
with Haryana Tourism is 828 rooms at present.
The Government has provided major thrust to tourism promotion
activities in the State. Kurukshetra is being promoted as an important tourism
destination. It is proposed to develop and promote the Panipat-Kurukshetra-Pinjore
as an integrated tourist circuit. Central financial assistance of Rs.1630.03
lakh has been sanctioned for this purpose. Once developed, this is likely
to become an important and famous tourist circuit based on history, religion
and ancient/cultural heritage
The Government has decided to set up two Institutes of
Hotel Management and Training at Tilyar Lake (Rohtak) and Badkhal Lake (Faridabad)
in collaboration with the private sector. Land at these two places is proposed
to be provided to the interested parties on lease hold basis.
During
the financial year 2007-08, following works are likely to be completed :-
i) Construction of new Tourist Complex at Morni.
ii) Construction of 4 log huts and drivers dormitory at Tikker Taal.
iii) Construction of multipurpose hall at Rohtak, Convention hall at Surajkund
and multipurpose hall at Bhiwani Tourist Complex.
iv) Expansion of parking at Braham Sarover, Kurukshetra and Yadvindra Gardens
at Pinjore.
The State Govt. has approved the Plan outlay of
Rs. 1500.00 lakh for tourism promotion for the financial year 2007-08 and an amount of Rs. 1863.18 lakh has been sanctioned
as Central Financial Assistance during 2007-08
v) Conservation
and restoration works of old monuments at Yadvindra Gardens, Pinjore like
Shish Mahal, Rang Mahal and outer boundary wall.
vi) The tourist complexes at Karna Lake, Karnal and Tilyar Lake, Rohtak are to
be developed as an ideal tourist destination for which detailed concepts plans
are proposed to be prepared. Central Financial Assistance of Rs. 159.00 lakh
and Rs. 441.00 lakh respectively has been sanctioned for this purpose.
vii) A new Institute of Hotel Management and Training is being set up at Kurukshetra
by the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India for making appropriate manpower
available for the tourism/hotel projects.
